Hi
there, hey there, ho there!! Greetings & welcome (from Marylin
Hafen) to my BEADressed.com hobby website.
Basically, I offer it to help bead enthusiasts everywhere.
- Purpose of the
Website -
To be a bead resource for those who would like URLs & online references
where to buy beads & supplies, etc., or where tutorials & inspirational
artists' beadwork sites are available. In the future, I also plan to
have bead book reviews, listings of bead classes available or a resource
for them, and in time, a picture gallery of the various bead pieces
I've made and those of friends who would like to add theirs to this
site. Eventually, I may even post the 25 different beadweaving classes
I've taught over the years, once I get around to it. (Please do NOT
send an encircled TUIT.) ... *:)
This section still under
construction. More to come. Visit again.

(Finds All Kinds of NEAT Stuff for Ya!)
- Hello, I'm Marylin
Hafen. Glad you paid a visit to my "in progress/in
process" website. I have big plans for it someday; hopefully, I'll get
a chance to do a lot of it sooner than later.
- Born in northern California
- l was raised in a tiny coastal town of Montara.
It had 300 people in 1953, one post office, 1 gas station, 1 hotel & cafe,
1 general store and 2 bus stops on the only 2 paved roads through the town
(yes, the rest were gravel). Needless-to-say, I had plenty of time on my hands
as a latch-key child in this quaint community where everybody knew everybody
else.
- Beading: the childhood
days - When very
young, I used to play with plastic beads with what was then akin to a non-lighted
Lite-Brite type pegboard (basically, a graphic coloring board by using colored
pegs as drawing elements). I used to spend hours 'n' hours making pictures,
turning it upside down to erase (like an Etch-i-sketch), letting the pegs
all fall out, then start all over again with the next picture. It's amazing
we keep any of that artistic side of us as adults once high school, college
& seeking a profession consume all our time. Somehow I was lucky and came
back to beadwork when I was in my early 30's and haven't stopped yet (and
trust me, I'm not showing any signs of slowing down--much to the shagrin of
my pocketbook!!).
- Bookkeeper by Trade
~ Beadweaver by Hobby
- All my professional life I've loved to account for the dollars in and out
of companies. I find that it gives me a wonderful feeling to get up each morning
to take care of other peoples' books. Just a happy li'l "beancounter" as my
friends say of me.... *blush*
- Beadweaver
- Which brings me to my hobby! Very apropos for a "beancounter" to also be
a "beadcounter!" *hehehe* I approach my beadweaving from a design & "count"
status; altho' less creative than that of the approach of a painter (for instance).
I find beautiful order and wonder in the designs I can dream up, and the variety
and beautiful simplicity of well-designed beadwork.
- Instructor
- Back in 1986, an American Indian supply shoppe locally sold a myriad of
beads, but without any instructors. At that time, Jerry
& Chris Weiss, owners of Rising Arrow in Sunnyvale, California,
urged me to teach (simply share) with customers the types of beadwork I
was
making at the time. (This was before there were hardly even a handful of
bead technique books on the market!) Jerry & Chris were *very gracious*
and encouraging to me. Their faith in me began a wonderful 10-year teaching
endeavor
which spanned over 25 beadwork courses ranging from the basic beginnings
of beading/beadwork/beadweaving techniques to the more complex and intricate
design work for intermediate to advanced beaders. They even let me spread
my wings from endemically native American beadwork to European crafts of
beadcrochet/beadknitting/beadneedlepoint
to the eclectic "Color and Glass" class. I found great rewards
by teaching beadweaving techniques to others as it fostered so much creativity.
When you see a person's mind & heart & very insides "light up"
when learning something new & wonderful -- I tell ya, there's nothing
like it!! And, I, for one, appreciate the fact that bead artists worldwide
are keeping the craft alive and well and will not let it disappear into antiquity,
lost forever.
- Artist
- Now, after beading for over 20 years, I find my design moods change as the
seasons do ... when I'm creative, my beadwork reflects that; likewise, when
I'm busy, the beadwork is tight (good time to work with cabochons!), or when
relaxed, that's the time to work on glass ornaments! Do you ever find yourself
looking at an ironwork chair or old grecian column design or even building
fascia -- almost staring -- because it gives you a BEAD idea?? Sometimes the
darnedst things inspire me, y'know??
- Dreamer & Philosopher
- Throughout my life, I've been an optimist & an encourager. I believe
the best of people, I care a lot for friends, I dream of a world that is guided
by the simple premise to treat others as you, yourself, would like to be treated.
Throughout my many experiences, I've come to conclude certain things as true
-- which has given me a particular philosophy about life. I've written several
stories & memoirs & philosophies down on paper. Eventually, I'll post these
on another webpage link, for those who are interested.

Did you enjoy this webpage?
Was it helpful or fun? Any questions or comments?
P. S.: One apology -- with my full-time job, my part-time bead hobby, I don't
often get the chance to update my webpage as often as I'd like. Therefore, if
you run across a website whose link in my homepage has been abandoned, if you'd
be so kind as to send me a quickie email to that effect, I'll do my best to find
the new link or eliminate it from my web references. To those who help, may I
please offer you a *warm huggums* and a thank you from my heart. *:) <--that's
my unique, happy smiley (emoticon) from my IRC days. *:)
